Albert Vogt Baumann III

Dec. 26, 1923 -- Oct. 29, 2008

Albert Vogt Baumann, 84, of Fremont died Wednesday morning. He was born in Fremont , to Albert Vogt Baumann, Jr. and Cary (Schreffler) Baumann. On June 8 1946, he married Dorothy Mohler and she survives. Mr. Baumann was a 1941 graduate of Fremont Ross High School where he was a member of the swim team. He was also a graduate of Blair Academy in 1942. In 1943 he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and was a member of the 385th Bombardment Group. Through his enlistment he completed 30 combat missions in a B-17 over Germany , as a waste gunner and bombardier. His service earned him the distinguished Flying Cross, 6 Air Medals and a Purple Heart.

    

After his discharge from the service he attended The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the 1946 track team. Mr. Baumann earned a letter in throwing shot-put and discus. In 1956, he became a Chevrolet Franchise dealer. Al and his son, Buck, acquired additional dealerships over the years. Al served on the boards of Bank One and Memorial Hospital . He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fremont Country Club, The Catabwa Island Club, Fremont Elks and Foxfire Country Club in Naples , FL. Al made a lifelong effort to support Sandusky County through his contributions and commitments to numerous civic projects.

    

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Baumann of Fremont ; son, Albert Vogt Baumann IV "Buck", his wife, Laura (Flick) of Fremont ; granddaughter Brooke Baumann of Fremont ; grandson Albert Vogt Baumann V of Fremont ; sister, Ruth Moore of Fremont ; brother, Jacob Baumann of Pennsylvania . He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Ruth Ann Baumann and sister, Carol Kettner.

      

Visitation: Friday from 2-4 and 6-9PM at Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street , Fremont , OH .

Services: Saturday 9:30AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Fremont , with Rev. William Mc Connell officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery , Fremont .
