Auto Dealers Association Donates Safety Training Equipment to Marion County YMCA and Red Cross

Two Marion county agencies have new safety training equipment, thanks to a gift from the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association (OADA) and the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation (NADCF).

At a ceremony September 11th at McDaniel Toyota, Melissa Dehl – representing OADA –  awarded a new automated external defibrillator (AED) training unit to the Marion Family YMCA. Dehl also presented an AED training unit and a computerized CPR-training manikin to the Marion County Chapter of the Red Cross.

The agencies will use the equipment – valued at $2,200 – to teach members of the community skills that can save the lives of victims suffering from respiratory and cardiac arrest.

Representatives from the automotive industry met at McDaniel Toyota on September 11th to present two AED training units and a computerized CPR training manikin to two area agencies. Pictured with the new equipment are (from left); Jim Waddell and Jeff Cerny – McDaniel Automotive, Karen Crabbe – Marion Family YMCA, Larry Christian – Marion County Red Cross, Melissa Dehl – Ohio Automobile Dealers Association (OADA), Tarina Rose – Marion County Red Cross. Valued at $2,200, the equipment was a gift to the community from OADA and National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation.

“Studies show that the kind of care a person receives in the first three minutes after going into arrest dramatically affects their chances of survival, as well as their quality of life if they do survive,” said Tarina Rose , Executive Director for the local Red Cross. “In most cases, those 180 seconds are up well before professional help can arrive on the scene. That means, during the most critical moments, people’s lives are often literally in the hands of lay rescuers. Equipment like this will help the Red Cross and the Y better prepare ordinary people to perform these lifesaving skills.”

Karen Crabbe, Executive Director for the YMCA added, “We’d especially like to thank local businessman, Mike McDaniel of McDaniel Automotive, who saw this grant was available while reading a trade publication. He played a key role in getting this equipment donated to our community.”

The Marion Family YMCA and the Marion County Chapter of the American Red Cross are United Way agency program partners.
