“Studies
show that the kind of care a person receives in the first
three minutes after going into arrest dramatically affects
their chances of survival, as well as their quality of life if
they do survive,” said
Tarina Rose
, Executive Director for the local Red Cross. “In most
cases, those 180 seconds are up well before professional help
can arrive on the scene. That means, during the most critical
moments, people’s lives are often literally in the hands of
lay rescuers. Equipment like this will help the Red Cross and
the Y better prepare ordinary people to perform these
lifesaving skills.”
Karen
Crabbe, Executive Director for the YMCA added, “We’d
especially like to thank local businessman, Mike McDaniel of
McDaniel Automotive, who saw this grant was available while
reading a trade publication. He played a key role in getting
this equipment donated to our community.”
