Robert L. Germain, Sr., 1923-2008

Robert L. Germain Sr. passed away quietly at his home in Naples on the evening of June 27, 2008. He was 85 years old.

The Ohio Supreme Court today upheld the constitutionality of a law that limits the amount of damages that may be awarded to injured persons who win product liability lawsuits.

George Edward Spry Foster, age 93, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away Friday afternoon, Dec. 28, 2007, at his residence after a brief illness.

Non-Resident Sales Tax Collection Begins August 1, 2007

On June 30th, Governor Ted Strickland signed into law the state budget bill, Amended Substitute House Bill 119.  As dealers are aware, significant changes were made to this bill by the legislature which significantly changed the Governor’s original proposal.

Clyde Cole Jr. ‘‘Skip,’’ 75 years old, of Warren, died suddenly of a massive heart attack on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at noon at his summer home at Sandy Lake.

Legislature Passes Computerized Data Security Breach Legislation 

The Ohio General Assembly recently passed Substitute House Bill 104 (Martin), which will require businesses and governmental agencies that own or license computerized data to provide discovery or notification of a security breach to Ohio residents whose personal information may have been accessed by an unauthorized individual.

Regulatory Update: OADA Argues that Negative Equity is Not Taxable

At the present time, whether negative equity is taxable in Ohio is unclear.  The Ohio Department of Taxation has asked The Ohio Automobile Dealers Association to explain why motor vehicle dealers should not charge sales tax on negative equity added to amounts financed in purchase and lease transactions.
