Publisher: 2020
Year: 2020

Original Air Date:  June 25, 2020

Hosted by OADA, with the Ohio Attorney General's Office

Advertising in today's 24/7 market is a tricky business. Automobile dealers are looking for ways to stand out in a crowded field. Don't forget that advertising, while an art form, has rules that need to be adhered to and complied with under both federal and state laws. This webinar reviews the recent trends and practices that are subject to Attorney General enforcement right now.

Over the course of the 60-minute webinar, we will be reviewing common trends and practices in automobile advertising. We will identify common problems in automobile advertisements and possible solutions and best practices. During the presentation, we will be discussing four current advertising issues:

  • What you can (and can't) compare your price to, including the MSRP and "retail prices"
  • What should be included in the advertised price (and what isn't)?
  • Do you really have a customer who is a relator, recent college graduate, active-duty military, and an AARP member? - Reviewing limited rebates and hot to properly advertise them
  • Is there really such a thing as "internet sales price"? - And who gets it?

In addition to concerning advertising practices, we will also review the Ohio Attorney General's Advertising Review program and how the Consumer Protection section responds to bad advertising and what tools it has to enforce compliance.

OADA welcomes Teresa Hefferan and Edward Early from the Ohio Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section to join us in a discussion of top advertising mistakes new car dealers are making right now and how you can correct those issues to be compliant. Teresa Heffernan is a Principal Assistant Attorney General and Edward Early is the Chief Investigator who regularly monitors dealer advertising.
