Do You Have State Sales or Use Tax Questions? Ask!

OADA Webinar

Register Now!

Dealers collect approximately one out of every five dollars of sales tax in the state of Ohio. As you can imagine, with the variety of transactions that occur in a dealership, we receive many questions on OADA's "Legal Hotline" regarding sales tax. This webinar is designed to address some of the most frequently asked questions as well as those questions you may have never asked but may need to know. These topics include:

  • Can a dealer accept a vehicle owned by someone other than the purchaser of a new vehicle and still receive the trade-in credit?
  • Is GAP taxable? What about credit life and disability?
  • If a dealership purchases equipment (battery charger, tools, lifts) does the dealer owe state sales tax?
  • Is sales tax owed on a "core charge"?
  • If a repair is performed pursuant to the terms of a service contract is sales tax owed on the value of the repair? What if there is a deductible?
  • Under what circumstances may a customer receive a refund of state sales tax?
  • When an out of state resident leases a vehicle and makes a down payment does the dealership collect use tax?
  • If the customer "trades-in" a vehicle they have leased and purchases or leases a new vehicle, does the customer receive a trade-in credit?

Send in your questions! The deadline to submit questions is May 1, so get your questions in! We hope to answer as many of your questions as possible by working them into the presentation. Questions should be sent to dzahniser@oada.com.

Joining OADA Staff Counsel for this presentation will be Keith Wilson, Assistant Administrator of the Business Tax Division, State of Ohio. We will also be joined by Phyllis Shambaugh, Legal Counsel, Sales & Use Tax Division, State of Ohio. Registration fee is $20 per connection for dealer members, and $50 per connection for non-member dealers. Register Now!
