Ohio BMV Releases Full Implementation Schedule for Title Redesign Program

Dealers Should Consult with DMS Providers for Reprogramming

As previously reported, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (“BMV”) has redesigned the Ohio Certificate of Title. The redesigned titles were introduced and implemented in multiple phases that began in January 2019 with a pilot program in a limited number of counties. Now the BMV has decided to implement the program throughout all 88 Ohio counties in phases. The implementation will continue over the next several months and county by county. The BMV currently estimates that the entire process will be completed by April.

The BMV recently released a tentative schedule for the full implementation process. That schedule can be found HERE .

All dealers should consult with their DMS programmers to address any programming changes that may be necessary to print information on the back of a certificate of title. Dealers may log into the Dealer Portal to locate a template of the redesigned certificate of title that may be used for re-programming your DMS.

For more information on the redesigned title and to review some frequently asked questions, go to the BMV’s website HERE. If additional information is needed, please contact the BMV’s Dealer Licensing Section at (614) 752-7637.
